Mr. Speer,
I am the son of a Franklin,
TN native who died of wounds
he received in the Normandy
Invasion in 1944.
I have made intensive
research about my father
P.F.C. W. A. Robinson, Co G,
2nd Bn/120th Inf Regt/30th
Inf Div "Old Hickory" over a
period of years. Dad was 35
yrs when he died in 1944,
married with 3 sons, ages
10, 8, and 6.
I am attaching a file with a
little info about my dad and
my search. It was published
in the Manchester, Tn
newspaper several years ago.
I have collected a large
amount of photos and
information about the U.S.
Second Army Tennessee
Maneuvers in WW II. One of
the photos I am most pleased
to have is a picture of MG
George S. Patton, Jr.
sitting on a sidewalk in
Manchester during his time
at Camp Forrest in 1942.
I am personally attracted to
Gen Patton Jr. legacy as I
served in one of the units
his son George Patton was in
the '70s. My wife and I
were guests at the marriage
of Helen Patton,
granddaughter of GP Jr in
Hampton Mass in 94.
Several years ago, I served
as a consultant to NBCNews
when they produced a special
production for the Discovery
Channel,
"2004 Return to Normandy
with Tom Brokaw".
At my present age of 77, I
am interested in finding a
suitable repository for my
collection of WW II
memorabilia, photos and
souvenirs relating to the
30th Inf Div activities in
WW II. If you have any
thoughts about a possible
worthy recipient group or
organization, I would
welcome them.
I have had contact with
several of the commanders of
Arnold AFB over the years
and am sorely disappointed
in their lack of some WW II
Historical tribute to the
activities at Camp Forrest
during one of the most
important times in history.
The response I received was
woefully inconsiderate of
the legacy of the U.S.
Second Army Tennessee
Maneuvers.
You may feel otherwise, but
maybe someday this hope
might be reality.
Sincerely,
BOB L. ROBINSON, MG, Ret
