Cowan is about 20 to 30 miles (by rail) from
the original chapel location. At one time I
had more information on the move, but have
not seen it in over 15 years. I'll try to
find it in the next few days. I was really
happy to see the inside and outside photos
on the hopebaptistchurch website. Carey |

Carey,
Just got in from the grocery store and
opened your email. This is very interesting…
how far is this church from the original
location, have any idea? Thanks for this
wonderful information… I believe I will
contact the pastor and ask if they have
additional information that I could place in
the web site… again, many thanks!

Steve:
After sending you the previous email, I
decided to call Pastor Bill Owens at Hope
Baptist in Cowan, and ask about the church's
history.
YES! The building was previously the Camp
Forrest Chapel!!
See: www.hopebaptistchurch.synthasite.com
for a photo and a brief history.

Steve:
I enjoy your Camp Forrest website very
much. I worked at AEDC for 37 years, and
shortly before I retired in 1995 and moved
to the north Georgia mountains, I tracked
down a church building in Cowan, Tennessee,
that is supposed to be the Chapel from Camp
Forrest. Presently it is the Hope Baptist
Church on Poplar Street in Cowan.
You can view the building on street views on
Google Earth. I never proved, without a
doubt, that this was the Forrest Chapel, but
it would be good to pursue the possibility.
It is the only wooden structure that I found
that might have survived.
